Dr. Carl L. Beckwith (-)


Carl Beckwith joined the faculty of Beeson Divinity School in 2007, and teaches church history and doctrine. His research interests include the Trinitarian and Christological thought of the Early Church Fathers, particularly the work of Hilary of Poitiers, the appropriation of Patristic thought by the Reformers, and Lutheran theology. In 2008, his monograph, Hilary of Poitiers on the Trinity: From “De Fide” to “De Trinitate,” was published in Oxford University Press’s Early Christian Studies series. He has published articles in the Journal of Early Christian Studies, Journal of Ecclesiastical History, Scottish Journal of Theology and Concordia Theological Quarterly. Before coming to Beeson Divinity School, Beckwith taught at Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania, and at the University of Notre Dame. Beckwith is an ordained pastor in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. He and his wife, Julie, have two daughters.
